Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel Renovation – Phase 2

The Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel, located in the heart of Yellowstone National Park, underwent a significant transformation in its second phase of renovations, completed in 2019. This project focused on modernizing guest accommodations while preserving the hotel’s historic Art Moderne style, a hallmark of its 1930s origins. As one of the few structures within the National Park System to feature this architectural style, maintaining its integrity was essential to the renovation effort.

Balancing Heritage and Comfort

In this phase, guest rooms were updated to include private bathrooms, enhancing comfort while reducing the total room count from 97 to 79. Careful restoration work brought back original features like clawfoot bathtubs and vintage doorknobs, adding touches of historical charm to modern amenities. This delicate blend of old and new was intended to immerse guests in the elegance of the past while providing the comforts expected today.

A Commitment to Sustainability

The renovation also aimed to improve the building’s energy efficiency and sustainability. With features such as upgraded mechanical systems and energy-efficient fixtures, the project achieved LEED Silver certification, underscoring the commitment to environmental stewardship. The hotel’s renovations brought it up to modern seismic and accessibility standards, ensuring it continues to serve as a welcoming retreat for all visitors.

A Timeless Gathering Place

The Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel remains a central gathering spot at the park’s headquarters, offering a glimpse into Yellowstone’s rich history and the legacy of hospitality within the park. From its elegant interiors to its scenic setting, the renovated hotel invites guests to enjoy a uniquely immersive experience that connects past and present in one of the nation’s most iconic landscapes.
