Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel – Phase One
Yellowstone National Park Rehabilitation
Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel Renovation – Phase 1
Perched at the North Entrance of Yellowstone National Park near Gardiner, Montana, the Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel has been a beacon of elegance and warmth since its construction in 1936. This iconic building is one of the few remaining examples of Art Moderne architecture within the National Park System. The first phase of renovations, completed in 2019, focused on striking a delicate balance between preserving history and embracing modernity to carry the hotel’s legacy forward for generations to come.
Honoring the Past, Enhancing the Experience
The $30 million restoration project prioritized seismic stabilization, accessibility upgrades, and utility improvements to meet contemporary standards while preserving the hotel’s iconic elements. One of the renovation’s crowning achievements was the careful restoration of the Map Room, home to a magnificent wooden map designed by Robert Reamer in the 1930s. This room, with its rich wood paneling and historic map, now serves as a welcoming lounge where guests can relax with a coffee or cocktail, surrounded by the echoes of history.
A Retreat Rooted in Elegance and Comfort
Guest rooms were thoughtfully updated to include private bathrooms, and new amenities, like an expanded ski shop and modernized conference spaces, were added to elevate the visitor experience. These improvements invite guests to explore the hotel’s rich heritage while enjoying all the comforts of a modern retreat. From the beautifully restored interiors to the scenic surroundings of Yellowstone, the hotel offers an experience that bridges past and present.
A Legacy Renewed
The renovations at Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel not only preserved the hotel’s architectural charm but also infused it with new life, ensuring it remains a place where visitors can connect with both history and the awe-inspiring landscape of Yellowstone. The result is a harmonious blend of tradition and innovation, where the legacy of the past meets the comforts of the present in one of the nation’s most treasured landscapes.
